Here I’m featuring a forum post from the official WordPress forums along with my response to it. It is a simple question for beginners to the WordPress world. “How do you change the blog title after installing WordPress?” (link). When installing WordPress for the first time your are prompted to enter the blog title, tagline, and other info with the assurance that it can be changed later. Well, now it’s later and you want to know how to change them. Here’s how.

Log into your WordPress administrative page and navigate to Settings, General. Then simply change the text in the Blog Name and Tagline text boxes. That should do it for most users.

This user, however, said that doing this didn’t work. So now what? There are three additional things to check for.

Is the title hardcoded into the theme? If so, you’ll have to manually edit it yourself (or hire someone with the know-how)

Are you using an SEO plugin (such as All-in-One SEO)? If so, check the settings on that plugin to see if you are overiding the default title for yout blog.

Are you using a cacheing plugin (WP-cache, etc)? If so, disable the cache plugin and delete all cached pages via the plugin’s settings area. Then reload your website again.

So there you have it. Change your blog’s title is the most basic of WordPress knowledge, but there can be a few conflicting issues that should now be resolved.
