I just released v1.2 of my Absolute Privacy WordPress plugin. Absolute Privacy is a plugin which makes your blog only accessible to logged in users. It also lets users register themselves, choose a password, but have to be approved before being able to log in.

This update was mainly to fix an XML-RPC authentication issue that prevented remote publishing apps (like the iPhone WordPress app) from communicating with private blogs. I tested the iPhone app on a blog running 2.8.2 with no problems. I haven’t tested other remote applications, so your feedback would be appreciated.

I also added the ability to prevent blog subscribers from accessing any admin pages. Normally they have access to a profile page and a dumbed-down dashboard. If enabled, they’ll now be redirected to the main blog page if trying to reach any admin page.

And finally, some users running WordPress 2.8 were permission errors when clicking the link to approve users. Version 1.2 fixes this issue.

Visit the Absolute Privacy homepage to read more and download. Don’t forget to donate if you found this update useful.

VERY NICE… Well – the part that keeps ppl from seeing the backend…

This really ought to be 2 pluggins, IMO. It took me half the day to work out the conflicts that the user section was having with my Register plugin…

All I wanted was the Redirect part… and I check marked that (the second item in your menu), but the extra Registration stuff came in anyway…

anyway – I hacked up your code – it still functions… I just don't see it in the ADMIN area anymore…. I can live with that… Unless you would like to rewrite it all!!!??! LOL

all that being said, it was VERY clean code and has been easier to hack than other code I've run across… and thank you for all your hard work!!!
I haven't uploaded changes to my PRODUCTION site (which still sort of in BETA yet…)

You're right, it may be good to include the option of not adding extra registration stuff so it doesn't interfere with other plugins. That may be something I do in a future release. I appreciate your compliments and comments, and I'm glad you got it working.

Hey – no problem… At least I got it to limp around on one leg!! LOL

So – my initial thought was that in the MENU, you have 2 options to check mark… I ONLY did the second one, but it seems as though the 1st option thought he was checked, too…

I don't know if it makes a difference for your future development, but I was using the IREDLOF plugin (Top pane slider thingie), the P2 theme, and the register_plus pluggin. The Register_plus plugin did indeed complain aobut a conflict.

I'm wondering if I can use this plugin to create a membership directory site.

This plugin doesn't make any sort of directory at all. It's just to lock down logins and make the site more private.

This plugin is GPL compatible and can be used as you see fit as long as credits and the original license remains intact.

Hi! This is a great plugin. I have been using it for my family's web site for quite some time now. My only issue with it is that once logged in, users are sent to the admin page, and not the main blog site. Is there anything we can do to change this behavior?

This plugin is brilliant. Just set up a family blog which want to keep private.

Does this plugin work with 2.9.1? If not any news on a update!
