For the past few weeks I’ve been working on a WordPress plugin that my wife requested. Today I’m happy to announce the release of my latest WordPress plugin called Absolute Privacy.

What does it do?

Absolute Privacy turns your blog into the ultimate private blog. Here’s a quick list of its features:

  • Force registrants to enter first and last name
  • Allow registrants to choose their own passwords
  • Moderate users: new registrants cannot login until approved
  • Get emailed every time an approval is waiting (with a link for quick approval)
  • Lock out all non-logged in views from your website (configurable)
  • Perfect for family blogs, personal sites, and private communities!

Why?

After having a few odd registrations and comments on our family blog, my wife asked me to create a plugin that would give the blog security from strangers but still be easily accessible to family and friends. Absolute Privacy does just that! Absolute Privacy turns your WordPress blog into a fully private site where you control who has access. It’s perfect for family blogs, private communities, and personal websites.

How to get it?

To download, visit the plugin’s offical homepage. I’ve also created a support forum for bugs or feature requests.

i installed the plugin is it seems nice, but when someone register is at once activated…no moderation is needed… there is some checkbox that i have modified that can produce this situation ?
thanks

Hi,

Love your Absolute Privacy plugin. Exactly what I was lookin for!

One little problem though. Enabling it disallows the WordPress for iPhone app to connect properly. Any chance this could be corrected?

Thanks.

Oops… One more request (as long as I’m here)

It would be cool if I was able to specify a default role after verification. Right now, when I verify a new user, they are automatically made subscribers (least privs). I’d prefer if every approved user on my (small, focused) blog went directly to author. Is this possible?

Thanks again!

Have a problem. I am testing the plugin abs-privacy on my site now, but I dont get the registration form only the usual log in picture. So then nobody can ask to be registered to see my site.

You have to make sure registrations are enabled in the WordPress options page.Settings–>General “Allow User Registrations” (or something to that effect)

When Activated the RSS Feed stops working. Even if I try authenticated login reader it says Feed contains a XML syntax error

Yes, the plugin doesn’t play well with RSS feeds. The problem is how do you secure a site without securing the RSS feed? I’m working on a solution now. Sorry about that!

Try it a few more times and see if that does anything. I’m not real sure what that error is at the moment.

Hi John,

I tested plugin absolute privacy, and strange things happens.
When I logged in it directed me to dashboard. It was little bit strange, but ok I am an administrator.
Then, I tested going through registration.I approved registered user to subscriber, and when I logged in as a subscriber it directs me again to dashboard (it displays tools, profile).

What is wrong?

After watching Rogue Trader I have become more interested in how you can manipulate the market with huge amounts of money. How exactly would you do this for example on the Forex Markets?

Hey John,
I really love this plugin. It's perfect for a new website I'm developing for my company which is in the medical industry and which prides itself on privacy and content control.

One problem though, and I've noticed this unanswered on the forum as well, I, as an administrator, am not getting any email notifications when new users try to register. They get their emails telling them to await approval and when they have been approved (although only when I approve via your new moderation button in users, not the default "authors and users").

I've tried looking through the PHP but I don't really know what I'm doing. Also tried triple checking my emails account settings to make sure it wasn't filtering the emails for some reason. I'm expecting a flood (hundreds) of new users the first week when we launch and am worried the launch might fall apart unless I"m staring at the screen all day to do in manually.

Ideas?
